First accident on E01 - Sri Lanka

A 27-year old resident of Dehilwala died early this morning when he lost control of his car and skidded of the Southern Expressway, Police Media Unit said.

The accident occurred around 1:40am today. There were no other passengers in the vehicle at the time, the media unit said, adding that investigations are being carried out to rule out excessive speeding or the use of alcohol.

This is the first death on the newly opened expressway, which cuts down travel time from Colombo to Galle down to an hour, from the earlier three hours.

First death on Southern Expressway


A 26 year old youth has died in the first fatal accident on the Southern Expressway this morning. According to police the victim’s car had skidded off the road near the 21st post near Kalutara.
